Switching something up is interpreted as a creative way to break a routine.  The activity of drawing and working on paper provides that outlet for me in my studio.

This drawing series uses that idea as both a metaphor and a starting point.  The drawing begins as an array (a group of bitmap dots) arranged into a basic grid.  A disruption enters into the frame of the drawing and sets off a cascade of activities that changes the dynamics within the array.  Some of the action takes place …seemingly…behind the surface of the paper (like the linear elements), and some of it takes place on the surface  (like the bleeding color).  As a result of this disruption, the array is no longer stable or predictable  - visual illusions and shifting figure/ground relationships emerge.
