What can I say? The destruction my home town of New Orleans (my residence at the time) was numbing. Even more peculiar was my return to the city after the 8-week mandatory evacuation. Among the many strange sensations was living in a city that the television media was still intensely focused upon. The frequent national news stories oddly mirrored and contrasted with my daily experiences. I wanted to make paintings that related to that experience, so I used the clean digital pixels of media in contrast with the organic, structural, and systemic destruction all around me. It might have been a news story for the world, but it was a profoundly traumatic experience for the people of New Orleans. Here are some of the paintings.
